Jane Yellowrock Series by Faith Hunter

I just finished Mercy Blade (Book 3 in Faith Hunter's Jane Yellowrock series) and I really enjoyed the series.

First I must say that I had a hard time with the first novel. Faith Hunter tried to include scientific explanations for the magic in her world and some of her research was a bit sparse. Once I got past the science and focused on the adventure, I found the series very enjoyable.

Jane Yellowrock is a Native American shapeshifter, specifically a skinwalker. Unlike other shapeshifter novels where the weres talk about having an inner beast, Jane actually shares her body with the soul of a mountain lion she calls Beast. This makes for some interesting transitions. The story is from the first person perspective and, when she shifts in to cat form, that first person is often Beast. The story changes might not be for everyone, because the pace and cadence of the story changes when Jane shifts to Beast. Jane uses these abilities to hunt and kill "rogue" vampires for money.

If you enjoy magic, vampires, shapeshifters, and girls that kick ass, you'll enjoy this series.

I'm looking forward to getting book 4 in January.
